Case Study: Immunology
Problem Our client, a venture capital company with a diverse investment portfolio, was asked to invest in a early stage company in the field of immunology. Confligating interests made a decision complicated. Furthermore, the client had no expertise to validate the scientific basis and the business concept of the investment opportunity.
| |
|
 |
Approach and Solution
evalueSCIENCE conducted a Science Due Diligence (SDD). A carfully assigned evalueSCIENCE Expert, a specialist in immunology, was asked to lead the process.
In a first step one international expert was asked to review the rational of the scientific approach of the company to invest in. To avoid conflicts of interests and guarantee confidentiality the identity of the evalueSCIENCE Expert and the peers he selected was revealed to the owner on the company. All the experts signed a confidentiality agreement with evalueSCIENCE. Two of the peers discussed specific points with the company owner by phone. The first expert had to comment on the potential of a specific immune modulating molecule as a therapeutic agent. In the second step two additional experts were chosen to comment on the scientific and commercial potential of the platform technology, the company wanted to apply.
The Science Due Diligence resulted in a synposis with recomendations by the evalueSCIENCE Expert. The platform of the company was considered of interest and potential value, the pipeline that has emerged from the platform, however, was viewed as disappointing so far. Furthermore, a detailed design of the clinical trials for the candidate molecules was missing. As a result of the SDD the client decided not to invest in the company. | |
